Parent-Teacher Fellowship Minutes

September 8, 2008

Meeting opened with prayer by Mr. Brian Trees.

Welcome and Announcements

Attendees were reminded of the PTF section on LFCA’s website. Check it often for updates and the latest newsletters and minutes.

Reports

Mentor Program – Steve Marks explained the new parent mentor program and encouraged families new to the school to sign up for a mentor. If you are interested in being a mentor, please contact Steve Marks.

 Fund balance/Membership – Angela Stayton provided an update on membership. At the time of meeting, we had 53 paid members. UPDATE: the membership drive totals have been tallied and we have 220 paid members. Our fund balance is $1,238. The UL vs. UK out-of-dress-code day brought in $123 which is earmarked for the Fall Festival. Membership forms can be found on the website.

 Volunteer Database – Donnie Mullins confirmed that all classes had Homeroom Parents. Updates were made based on the feedback. He also made pleas for volunteers for the lunchroom, painting, and library. If you haven’t visited the link for the background check, please do PRIOR to volunteering (found on the PTF section of the LFCA’s website)

 Communication – Kim Gathof brought copies of the Fall Festival fliers. She reminded everyone to put their contact information on the sign-in sheet so that she can add you to the email distribution list.

 Golf Tournament – Angie Boxwell provided an update regarding the golf tournament scheduled for this month. Due to lack of committed participants, it was decided to postpone it until Spring. The $400 deposit was non-refundable, but Quail Chase agreed to hold onto the deposit for Spring.

New Business

Teacher Wish Lists – Mrs. Gibson has distributed both wish lists and Teachers’ Favorites to all the teachers. These lists will be put on the website by the 8th grade students as a class project.

 Bi-monthly Newsletter – Stefanie Walls proposed going to a bi-monthly newsletter rather than a monthly one. This will eliminate having "filler" and reduce the likelihood of repetitive information. No one opposed, so the next newsletter will be October. If you have anything you would like to see in the newsletter, please contact Kim Gathof.

 Faculty Meetings - These meetings are held monthly on the second Monday at 4 p.m. The faculty that was present expressed a need for childcare. We already have several parents signed up willing to bring food for the meeting on 9/15. The PTF decided in its June meeting that we would continue to provide food for

the Faculty Meetings. In order to do this, we will need a steady flow of volunteers. We also need volunteers for child care. Please contact Donnie Mullins if you are willing to help.

 By-laws Committee – Stefanie Walls asked for a few people to help draft the by-laws for the PTF. UPDATE: One person signed up. If you are interested in helping draft the by-laws, please contact Stefanie. She anticipates this can be done in 2 meetings.

 The winning class for the Membership Drive was 3rd Grade! Congratulations!! As promised their award is a pizza party and out of dress code passes for each student.

Fall Festival

Anne provided a comprehensive update on the festival planning. To see details, please see the email from Kim Gathof dated 9/10. In summary, there is a lot to still be done and the success will depend upon everyone’s ability to pitch in. Remember this fundraiser takes the place of the former gift wrap and Christmas card fundraiser.

Other Fundraisers

Anne briefly mentioned other fundraising possibilities that will be discussed at the next meeting.

Next Meeting: October 6 at 7 p.m.
